kin + care collective and Stay Golden have been co-dreaming for the past couple of years and we were thrilled to finally host an event together!

As two Scarborough-based grantees of the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s Youth Opportunities Fund, we know how important community-led, arts-based programming is for our youth.

A close up photo os Veggie Samosas with green dipping sauce that is unfocused. The photo is focused to the label that writes "Veggie Samosas"
A section of the event where names of artists are showcased with their artworks. (Meagen, Hadi and Daisy). The other side of the photo, there are 3 attendees standing in front of another artist's showcase. Their back are towards the camera.

For the past few months, our program, Just Between Us, has been using the arts to explore systemic racism and its impact on the mental health of racialized youth in Scarborough.

Our program’s young artists have been busy creating around the themes of community, freedom, care, hope, and the power of our stories.

Similarly, Stay Golden has been offering writing workshops to Scarborough youth and exploring themes such as connection, disconnection, resilience, and joy.

Stay Golden proudly celebrated the creative talent of their program’s youth.

THE MEETING PLACE was a celebration of our youth and our community. Thanks to everyone who joined us!

The MEeting Place

A video highlight of "the meeting place" that took place. Most videos are closer to photos above. Attendees eating food, having conversation, looking at the art wall, watching the projected screen, some videos of performances, the whole decorations and interactive discussions around the event, all in all attendees having fun and interacting.

Thanks to our funders, the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the Youth Opportunities Fund, Toronto Foundation, Volunteer Toronto, Toronto Arts Council, and the City of Toronto; to Loft & Main for sharing their gorgeous space with us; and to our friends Ziyaad Haniff and Celeste Ceres for the photos and videos above.

That’s all for now but, just between us, we’ve got more in store…👀
